ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THE INFECTION WITH CRYPTOSPORIDIUM SPP. AND PCV2INFECTION IN GROWING PIGS

Cryptosporidium spp. infection causes a non-hemorrhagic diarrhea in pigs associated with atrophy of intestinal villi, resulting in losses of absorption of fluids and electrolytes through the intestinal epithelium (1). In adult animals, the infection can be asymptomatyc with or without oocyst excretion (4). Beginning in the year 2000, PCV2 infection has been diagnosed in Brazil, causing specially the wasting form of the porcine circovirus associated disease (PCVAD, 6). The objective of the present work was to detect in Brazil infection with Cryptosporidium spp. in pigs with clinical signs of PCV2 infection.
