Clostridium difficile - Associated Disease (CDAD) in Czech Piglet Production: First Report

Pathogenic isolates of E. coli and Clostridium perfringens Type A cpb2+ are at present still assumed to be the main aetiological agents of bacterial diarrhoeas in neonatal piglets in Europe. In the USA, on the other hand, toxinogenic Clostridium difficile is considered the main aetiological agent because it is the sole causative agent in 35% of neonatal enteritis cases and is found with other enteropathogens in 25% of other cases of enteritis (7). In our research into diarrhoeas caused by C. perfringens Type A we have for quite some time been on the alert for the appearance of Clostridium difficile - associated disease (CDAD) also in the Czech Republic.
