EVALUATION OF A NATURAL ADDITIVE (SANGROVIT*) VERSUS TIAMULIN IN FEED FORFINISHING PIGS

Antimicrobial growth promoters have significantly fallen from favour recently. After antimicrobials were completely banned in Europe in 2006, a series of alternative growth promoters became part of commercial feed, such as Benzophenantridine alkaloids(Sangrovit) whose actions have the same objectives and also promote better use of feed nutrients 1, 2). In Brazil, reaction to the European decisions, the importers' pressure and the technicians' anxiety has led to the evaluation of these new principles. The objective of this experiment was, therefore, to evaluate the effect of Sangrovit associated with ractopamine as compared with tiamulin and ractopamine, under commercial conditions, on performance during the growing and finishing phase, on the characteristics of the carcass and on the production cost and bonus.
