The linear amplifiers that are currently used in ADSL line-drivers have a very low efficiency, due to the high peak-to-average voltage ratio of the ADSL signals, and the low performance of those amplifiers at low signal amplitudes. Despite the larger distortion of the output signal, switching amplifiers are a promising alternative, since their efficiency could theoretically attain 100%. This paper presents a new level-shifter for the n-type high side switch of the output stage of a high-voltage switching amplifier.
