摘要

The aim of this paper is to emphasize an important practical aspect concerning the interaction between non-thermal plasma activated water (PAW) and plastic materials (i.e. polycarbonate) with severe consequences on living organisms' health status in case of ingestion. For this study, PAW was produced using a gliding arc plasma reactor. The experiment was conducted on a total number of 45 outbred female mice, CD1 strain, 3-week-old, divided into three groups. The mice received drinking water as follow: group A -tap water, group B - distilled water, and group C - PAW. All types of water were administered ad libitum in polycarbonate bottles during 180 days. We observed that all mice from group C suffered systemic amyloidosis and this pathological finding could be linked to an important and constant release of bisphenol and other toxic organic compounds from polycarbonate bottles during long-term interraction with PAW. When the experiment has been repeated using chemically inert borosilicate bottles, the previous lesions didn't occur. This finding is a pro argument for interaction between PAW and polycarbonate with toxic compounds release.
