This research aims to the study of alkali activation of steel slag, lignite fly ash and glass with NaOH solutions. Furthermore, the addition of glass in alkali activated cement pastes is also investigated. The parameters of the process studied are activator concentrations (1M and 6M NaOH), curing temperature (25 and 60 °C), and fly ash, slag, glass ratios. The glass was used either as a binder in mortar and pastes or as an aggregate in mortars. The pozzolanicity of cullet, the hydration rate and the mechanical strength development of the cement pastes and mortars, as well as the expansion of the specimens due to the alkali-silica reaction were the main factors under investigation. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDX) and Thermal Analysis (TG) were the instrumental methods characterising and verifying the development of the mechanical properties.
