The B-site cation order in Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_3 ceramics was significantly enhanced by doping of minor amount (1 at.%) of La, Sc or W. Transmission electron microscopy examination confirmed the presence of large chemical domains (~100nm). However, distinct dielectric/ferroelectric behaviors were observed in these ceramics with long range cation order. Doping with Sc seems to enhance the dielectric properties while doping with La just shows the opposite effect. The observed difference in properties can be traced back to the ordering mechanism in these ceramics.
