This empirical study, using the data collected from 919 employees of nine companies located in Guangdong Province, China, investigates the present status, differences among demographic groups, and differences between SOEs and POEs regarding job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Key findings include: ① employees overall show a higher level of job satisfaction and a lower level of organizational commitment; ② employees with older age and lower education tend to have higher levels of job satisfaction and organizational commitment; ③ employees in POEs have a higher level of job satisfaction and organizational commitment than employees in SOEs. Implications and managerial suggestions are provided.
