Adequate organic carbon delivery is essential for establishment of reductive in situ reactive zones (IRZs) for anaerobic groundwater bioremediation. Traditional reductive IRZ injection strategies have focused on periodic, short-duration batch injections into a series of tightly spaced injection wells for amendment delivery. Recently, advancements have been made in delivery techniques to accommodate coverage over larger areas. These delivery-optimized IRZ systems have focused on supporting large volume/longduration injections facilitated by engineered hydraulic control within the target amendment delivery zone. These injection strategies can allow for more efficient delivery with less injection infrastructure. The long-duration (and sometimes even continuous) injection of amendment to facilitate effective delivery results in a greater chance for significant variations in hydraulic performance.
