摘要

Emulsified zero-valent iron (EZVI) has been extensively tested for degradation effi- ciency and by-product formation with trichloroethene (TCE) as the contaminant solvent. EZVI has been shown to effectively degrade TCE in laboratory studies as well as field- scale demonstrations. The reaction rate of pure-phase TCE with EZVI has been related to the dissolved-phase reaction rate of TCE with nano-scale iron. The degradation process with EZVI must be related to at least two processes: transport through the organic mem- brane of the emulsion and degradation at the iron surface. The purpose of this study was to clarify the significance of these two relationships.
