In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) treatment utilizing activated sodium persulfate has recently been proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of recalcitrant chlorinated compounds. Two recently completed ISCO treatment sites in Southern California involv- ing two hard to treat compounds, namely methylene chloride and 1,4-dioxane, are exam- ined as case studies. In both cases, the sodium persulfate was activated by use of catalyzed hydrogen peroxide (Fenton's like reaction).
