A Nonemulsified Vegetable Oil Biobarrier for Chlorinated Ethene Remediation(Abstract)

National Semiconductor Corporation (National) installed a nonemulsified vegetable oil biobarrier in January 2007 across a 450-foot section of chlorinated solvent plume in Santa Clara, California. The vegetable oil biobarrier is intended to replace an existing line of groundwater extraction wells that have been operating for many years with diminish- ing mass removal efficiency. This project is considered a large-scale field study of the vegetable oil barrier technology.
