In order to extend the use of recycled asphalt concretes (RAC) to achieve a higher recycling rate as well as to improve RAC performances, a fiber material is added as a supplement to RAC. A series of laboratory tests are carried out to evaluate RAC at higher recycling rate of 70% and 100% over the specified value. The tests include wheel tracking test, immersed wheel tracking test, three point bending test, Cantabro test and abrasion test. Results indicate that the addition of the fiber improves the basic performances of RAC in terms of resistance to rutting, moisture susceptibility and the cracking as well as its durability. A particularly pronounced effect is observed in RAC with modified asphalt binder, the performances of which are notably improved by the addition of fibers. Although RAC with modified binder containing 100% old aggregates might be acceptable for the surface course of airport pavements, it is concluded that RAC with modified asphalt binder at 70% recycling rate is recommended as a balanced result.
