ROLE OF SS MATERIAL TO COMBAT CORROSION IN SUGAR INDUSTRY - A STUDY UNDER RD INITIATIVE OF STAI

摘要

In view of high cost of maintenance due to corrosion in sugar industry, it was decided to undertake a study on the various materials of construction for the sugar industry applications, under the R&D initiative of STAI. Therefore, a working group (PG~1, VB~2, JCI~(x3), LKS~4) was formed, chaired by Sh I.D. Mittal, to conduct a detailed study on the subject. The group visited 4 sugar factories in different zones of India for observation and on the spot discussions with the operating staff. The group also initiated experiments to assess the impact of corrosion and explored the possibility of developing low cost stainless steel grades for use in sugar industry.
