Control of aircraft flight under conditions when ice can accrue on its wings is a challenge because ice accretion can change significantly the aerodynamics of the aircraft. This paper presents a methodology that couples a modern lifting line method, called Q3D-Wing which is capable of predicting the aerodynamics of iced wings, to a flight control system to better control flight by predicting and correcting for the changing aerodynamic behavior created by the ice. An example of a general aviation aircraft, with and without ice, following a glide slope path illustrates the ability of Q3D-Wing to positively augment a simple control system.
