Symbolic techniques: A new tool for teaching circuits and electronics

Analog Insydes, a symbolic circuit analysis package, employs modern techniques of expression simplification relying on comparisons with a numerical reference solution of the circuit under analysis. The techniques are described followed by two examples, a common-emitter gain stage and a pseudo-CMOS seriesshunt feedback pair. The pedagogic potential of the package is assessed, and some observations are offered concerning the challenges of incorporating it into an undergraduate program of instruction.
