Performance of Hybrid-type Vibration Isolation Wall using Gas Cushions

It is very important issue to reduce the environmental ground vibrations generated by the running of vehicles in traffic systems as railways and highways, and also the operation of construction machines or factory machines. The authors have developed the hybrid-type vibration isolation wall barrier using gas cushions to isolate the propagation of environmental ground vibrations. This wall is one of the vibration isolation methods by constructing the open trench-type wall. This isolation wall barrier was constructed by the triple structures composed of gas cushions, soil cement walls and steel sheet piles into the ground. The hybrid-type vibration isolation wall barrier can be expected to have same effect with the open trenches that is considered to be the most effective means. In this paper, the environmental vibration isolation performance by this hybrid-type wall barrier was examined by field measurements with the source of a vibration exciter and the real railroad traffic vibration. Also, the vibration isolation mechanism was confirmed by the two dimensional FEM analysis.
