Monitoring of Transport Noise in Large Cities: Comparison and Results of European and Russian Experience

Transport noise level increases together with the cities growth. In Russia at least half of large cities population suffer from different king of noise affection. Therefore it is very important to carry out high quality transport noise monitoring in large cities. This paper is devoted to the discussions of the results and experience of transport noise monitoring in large cities of Italy and Russia. Peculiarities of European and Russian approaches to transport noise monitoring are analyzed. Measurements methodic of noise levels in places of living territory of Russian cities adjoining to transport noise dangerous zones is discussed. Methodic and approaches to transport noise mapping in Europe and Russia are compared. Noise dangerous zones of living area are determined. The results of transport noise monitoring shows that significant part of population is affected by increased noise levels. The most serious problem of noise influence is for the dwelling territories closely adjoining to transport highways. Thus, it is possible to make a conclusion about the existing of real problem of transport noise safety provision both in Europe and Russia and to integrate common efforts to improve the quality of noise monitoring.
