An approach to assessing uncertainty in air quality models is out-lined based on Monte Carlo simulation, but this alone is not suffi-cient for decision making. Instead the problem should be turned intoone involving the optimisation of an objective function, which in airquality management should be a suitable integral of weightedexceedences over the whole region of interest.
