During the last decade, CRM has step by step developed an innovative casting technique to reduce the central segregation, to refine the solidification structure of semis by addition of steel powder and to modify the chemical composition of the steel by a late inoculation of ferro-alloying powder [1,2,3]. This technique is based on the Hollow Jet Nozzle concept (HJN) (Figure 1). The first industrial tests were performed for long and flat products and proved the efficiency of this technique for the low superheat casting (Hollow Jet nozzle with heat exchanger).
