ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING SYSTEMS CONSEQUENCES FOR ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND HUMAN FACTORS

Providing optimal lighting for the user's needs at all times is the lighting systems first and foremosttask. With today's increasing energy prices and the awareness the effect that increased emission of greenhouse gasses has on the environment, motivates us to fulfilling these needs at an optimal energy efficient manor. A fully automated and adaptive lighting control system allows us to do this. In this aspect it is important to be aware of what influence the lighting has on the individual user, both concerning psychological and health aspects. This study investigates these aspects by implementing new luminaires and a new lighting control system in a large hospital building in Norway. Different types of installations are being implemented and both technical values (energy use, temperature, CO_(2)-level, daylight level) and psychological influence are being tracked before, during and after the project period. The study is expected to be completed in 2008, but preliminary results from the pre-test and the first post-test are expected to be available by autumn 2007.
