Spray flame reactors are commonly used for the synthesis and the functionalization of metal oxide nanoparticles. Spray assisted flame pyrolysis reactors are not easily accessible for in-situ diagnostics, so that simulation is required. The present work investigates the flow, mixing and temperature distribution inside the reactor by simulation to verify synthesis conditions and the design of the reactor. Based on the results, modifications of the reactor and the operating conditions are suggested.
