DRS TEM has been developing high power density power supplies to support the needs of one hundred thousand watt class solid state lasers under contract with various US Army agencies since 1989. The goals of these efforts are to develop a portable power supply designed to meet rigorous military environmental conditions and confirm to military transport requirements. These developments have been supported by a wide range of programs in hybrid vehicle and pulse power conditioning programs as shown in Figure 1. The result is a Programmable Power System (PPS) capable of supplying 1.5 M watts of programmable power waveform suitable for driving laser diodes.
