High performance seal for very high temperature/high pressure static applications

Very high temperature sealing applications tend to become more and more common in today's industrial world. Hydrocarbon processing and power generation are the main fields of such applications where temperatures as high as 900°C can be combined with pressures around 100 bar together with very stringent tightness requirements. This paper describes the development of a new gasket aiming to comply with all of the above. The project was initiated within the 5th European Framework Programme through a consortium of one seal company, four industrial end-users and three R&D organizations. With the objective of minimized seating load, two metallic and one ceramic-based designs were produced.
