The various constituents and characteristics of effluent sources can cause significant challenges to the longevity and operation of mechanized irrigation systems. Understanding the physical and chemical properties of the effluent source and making some appropriate choices in the design of the system can and should lead to many years of successful operation. It is also important to set some reasonable guidelines for ongoing maintenance of the various components of the system. Mechanized irrigation systems are uniquely adaptable to a variety of conditions and make an excellent choice for such applications. Understanding the available materials, application devices and system configurations allows the designer to make necessary accommodations for eachunique project while tailoring the effluent application to suit the plant-soil-water prescription for remediation or reuse. Attendees will gain knowledge regarding equipment design and selection criteria through an overview of the design and operationalconsiderations involved in the successful deployment of mechanized irrigation technologies.
