Plastic optical fibers (POF) are widely used in the field of telecommunications, lighting, sensors and biosensors. The versatility of POF allows use in different applications in different branches. The concentration of solar energy and subsequent transmission via POF into the culture tank allows the use of closed tanks low cost, unlike the traditional transparent materials with relatively high cost. In this paper the evaluation of two modes of stripping the fiber in contact with the cultivation of microalgae laboratory was performed. The goal was to determine which of the changes in fiber has better dissipation of light within the crop. It was monitored for the growth of microorganisms and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), this radiation is of interest to microalgae. The experiment lasted for 47 hours. The result of this evaluation will be used in future construction of a photobioreactor (PBR) with solar concentration using Fresnel lens.
