Novel Mesh Modification Method Using Laplace Equation for 3-D Dynamic Finite Element Analysis

In the three-dimensional (3-D) dynamic finiteelement analysis of an electromagnet, a motor and so on, it is necessary to modify the 3-D meshes according to the motion of the armature. We used to modify the 3-D finite element meshes using the mesh modification method in which the displacements of nodes are obtained by the interpolation between the initial mesh and the final one. Though that method is very easy to modify the meshes, we need to prepare two meshes - the initial mesh and the final one. In this paper, we propose a novel mesh modification method in which the displacements of nodes are calculated by solving the Laplace equation. This method can be applied to the armature movement of electromagnets, the off-centered rotor of motors, and the skew of rotor, and so on.
