Terpenes and terpenoids are a small but heterogeneous class of naturally occuring compounds and important for laboratory- as well as industrial-scale applications. Referencing to the terms of Sustainability or Green Chemistry the use of terpenes in chemical reactions is one method of choice to replace natural oil or gas based chemicals in the syntheses of fine and specialty chemicals. Due to their nature (odour, taste, chirality) they serve as important synthetic building blocks for the production of flavors, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals.1 Beside these practical applications, the chemistry of terpenes and terpenoids is interesting from theoretical and mechanistic view points.
