Palladium(0)-catalysed cross-coupling reactions of organohalides and organometallic reagents or other nucleophiles (alkenes, alkynes, ethers, thioethers, amines) in combination with a base represent valuable synthetic tools for many applications. Most commonly Pd2(dba)3 (dba = E,E-dibenzylidene acetone) and Pd(OAc)2 are used as precatalyst sources for these reactions, whereby an eclectic array of ligands offering varying electronic and steric effects are usually added {e.g. X-phos, P(t-Bu)3, NHCs) to generate and enhance the reactivity of the "catalytically active species".
