VVI or dual-chamber pacing has demonstrated that right ventricular apical pacing may adversely affect myocardial function and lead to an increased number of hospital admissions for congestive heart failure. In patients requiring permanent pacing, preservation of intrinsic ventricular activation is preferred whenever possible. The Search AV+ (SAV+) algorithm is designed to promote intrinsic ventricular activation by increasing AV intervals (Figure 1) in patients with intact or intermittent AV conduction. We report the initial experience with the SAV+ algorithm in Medtronic EnPulse?dual-chamber pacemaker. We assess the effect of the SAV+ algorithm on the percentage of ventricular pacing (%VP) in patients with and without intrinsic AV conduction.
