During the excavation, deformation and failure of surrounding rock masses around underground caverns of Jinping I hydropower station are analyzed by the numerical simulation as well as the internal force of rock bolt and presstress anchor cable. Effect of cracks and joints on deformation and failure of surrounding rock mass around underground caverns of Jinping I hydropower station is investigated. The stress and displacement fields of surrounding rock mass around underground caverns of Jinping hydropower station I is obtained as well as the internal force of rock bolt and presstress anchor cable. Deformation and failure mechanism of surrounding rock mass around underground caverns of Jinping hydropower station I are revealed. Comparison between the numerical results obtained from numerical results and monitoring data is carried out. It is shown that numerical results are in good agreement with the the monitoring data.
