Evaluation of a Novel High-Throughput Forensic Screening Method for Drugs of Abuse in Urine with Paper Spray Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry

We have shown an easy-to-use technique (no sample preparation, no chromatography) that shows extraordinary potential for the quantitative analysis of drugs of abuse in forensic toxicology when coupled to the TSQ Quantiva triple quadrupole mass spectrometer, all in much shorter timeframes than it is possible using liquid chromatography techniques. Quantitative analysis of several drugs in a mix from 7 μL of urine is demonstrated, with LODs down to 0.5 ng/mL and LOQs slightly higher and compound dependent.
