A straightforward APCI LC/MS/MS method for measurement of D_4, D_5, and D_6 content in silicone emulsions has been demonstrated. The new method may be utilized as an alternative technique to conventional GC/FID analysis whenever inconsistent GC data are observed. The new APCI LC/MS/MS method was found to have good method accuracy and overcomes in situ cVMS production observed by other methods, even for complex emulsion products. The newly developed and optimized APCI LC/MS/MS method for cyclic siloxane quantitation has: 1. Good reproducibility: 2-5% RSD; 2. Rapid analysis times: simple sample preparation and 4 minute total LC/MS/MS analysis time; 3. Much better sensitivity than the originally stated method targets both in terms of detection limits (5 ppb - 1 ppm) and quantitation limits (16 ppb - 3 ppm).
