The data demonstrate the suitability of metabolomic profiles in lymph node aspirates in lung tumor-type classification. The metabolite profiles in lymph node aspirates distinguished patients with malignancy from patients without malignancy. The metabolite profiles are tumor-type specific and are suitable to separate patients with AdenoCa from patients with SqCCa. The data suggest that malignant tumor cells in lymph nodes consume glutamine. Malignant tumor cells in lymph nodes excrete glutathione. The known difference in kynurenine to tryptophan ratio is due to high consumption of tryptophan via a kynurenine-independent pathway.
