Pretreatment of oil samples for GCMS analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their hetero-analogs

A method for the preliminary extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons from crude oils including distillation, the use of aniline as a solvent, and pressure column chromatography has been shown to be sufficient for the successful structure determination of "oil aromatics" at a molecular level by traditional GC-MS.
