Metabolic and Proteomic reaction to the nitrogen limitation in Solanum tuberosum can be observed as early as 10 minutes after stress application. Early and late stress response involves different metabolic pathways. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase was identified as phosphoprotein showing upregulation 10 minutes after stress application, with no significant difference in long-term treatment. Broad spectrum of compounds(sugars, amino acids, organic acids) altered in early response to nitrogen deficiency. Increase in concentration of aromatic amino acids, cinnamic acids, coumarines, alkaloids and phenolics in long-term treatment was observed, suggesting involvement of Shikimate pathway in adaptation mechanism.
