An optimized low dead volume combustion interface between a GCxGC and an IRMS facilitated the "fast GC" peaks shapes required for GCxGC separation in GC2. The m/z 44 peak shapes of steroids averaged less than 330ms FWHM from a 1m DB17 GC2. We depict for the first time 2D and 3D representations of a m/z 45/44 isotope ratio trace. Cryogenically sliced peaks were successfully reconstructed with (delta)~(13)C_(VPDB) values at average precisions of approx0.5(per thousand) and average accuracies within approx0.3(per thousand). Results from the prototype interface demonstrate the feasibility of using GCxGC separations with online C-IRMS.
