Development and Applications of a New Benchtop Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer

A new benchtop mass spectrometer has been developed based on an API ion source combined with a stand-alone Orbitrap mass analyzer. The key performance features are as follows: (1) Mass resolutions of up to 100,000; (2) Scan speeds of up to 10 Hz; (3) High in-scan dynamic range (4 orders of magnitude); (4) Mass accuracies of better than 2 ppm in full scan and "All Ions MS/MS" mode; (5) Fast polarity switching (full cycle of 1 positive and 1 negative scan within 1 second); (6) High efficiency "All Ions MS/MS" High Energy Collision Dissociation (HCD). The instrument is very easy to run and with its performance features ideally suited for discovery work, screening applications, quantitative analyses and elemental composition determinations.
