Extensive Fractionation and Identification of Proteins within Nasal Lavage Fluids from Allergic Rhinitis and Asthmatic Chronic Rhinosinusitis Patients

In this study, we identified 197 NLF proteins from AR and/or asthmatic CRS patients. Several of these proteins have been identified in previous studies. The new proteins identified can be further studied to determine if there is an association with rhinosinusitis disease and potentially used to develop screening assays. Although, extensive protein fractionation may have increased our detection of lower abundance proteins, the difficulties encountered, mainly the protein losses and the manual digestion of numerous fractions, limits the practicality of this workflow for future NLF studies.
