(1) Interpretation of mass spectra of the complexes with recombinant albumin was significantly easier because of the elimination of pattern complexities due to the simultaneous presence of complexes from multiple protein forms in native albumin; (2) Drug binding to albumin follows a discontinuous digital progression; this is a new observation, also conformed by us for other drugs, and may be a general phenomenon; (3) In patients: (a) Intact albumin-drug complexes were detected in all patient samples; (b) There is substantially more protein-bound ON 01910.Na than circulating free compound at all times; (4) The techniques developed are capable of: (a) detecting intact albumin-drug complexes and determining the number of drug molecules bound to albumin; (b) differentiating between total and free drug concentrations in patient sera.
