THE ORIGIN OF 'ILLITE' FROM ACIDIC SOILS, TATRA MOUNTAINS, POLAND

The origin of finely crystalline mica from a weathering profile developed in the Tatra Mts. (Western Carpathians) was studied in detail. According to previous works [1, 2] it seems to be probable that some of the illitic material present in podzols from the Tatra Mts. is of authigenic origin. The principle of soil illitisation was suggested previously by many authors. Despite the abundance of papers, it seems to remain only suggested but not proved [3].
