Accuracy of Temperature Fields and Local Data Sets for the Tatra Mountains (Poland)

The estimation of air temperature accuracy and the status of a data base that was used to determine different climatic characteristics are discussed. The accuracy of air temperature is estimated by taking additional measurements and by optimal interpolation. The error field for temperature was calculated taking into account the distribution of reference (original) network of temperature measurements. Similar fields were also constructed for the upgraded network in which two observing stations were added. Inclusion of additional stations significantly improves the air temperature determination in the Tatra mountain region while the interpolated values derived from measurements at surrounding stations (reference case) contain large errors.
