INITIAL PROCEDURE TO EXTERMINATE WOODWORMS IN PANEL PAINTINGS BY MICROWAVE-POWER APPLICATION

A procedure for microwave disinfestation of panel paintings had been assessed. The investigation is based on wild pine wood samples, woodworms larvae and a linear antenna prototype. The research determine the higher heating when electromagnetic field was parallel to the grain, estimate the needed duration for the microwave-power radiation to guarantee the safe levels of wood and to exterminate the larvae, verify that it cannot have an effect over wood appearance or its ground and finally show the extermination rates in two different application cases. The current results demonstrate that the microwave disinfestation may be safe and feasible for the panel paintings, specifically with 1kW power and 20 seconds.
