摘要

This paper describes the integrated design of a high performance classroom that can perform 70% better than Oregon energy code at a lower first cost than the typical classroom. To achieve these goals, we considered issues of the Pacific Northwest climate, occupant use, mechanical systems, and loads created by the architectural design. In this process, we challenged conventions regarding occupancy patterns, thermal and visual comfort criteria, and mechanical systems,. The resulting classroom is daylit for over 95% of operating hours, has no conventional mechanical heating or cooling system, and meets ASHRAE comfort criteria.
