This work proposes to study the compatibility of metformin and excipients in binary mixtures and pre-formulated A, B and C mixtures using thermogravimetry and calorimetric techniques. Through thermogravimetric parameters and conventional DSC curves were evidenced the incompatibility in binary mixtures and pre-formulated B and C containing starch and lactose respectively. This incompatibility was observed in the images obtained with DSC Photovisual. The purity calculations for metformin in the pre-formulated B and C showed values of 94.4 and 89.1% of metformin below of preformulated A containing microcrystalline celullose that it presented a metformin purity of 98.7%. The thermal data confirm the interactions between metformin and starch / lactose.
