This paper addresses ventilation principles to provide safe escape circumstances in escape corridors parallel to the tunnel tube and at the tunnel portal. The pressure differences caused by the longitudinal tunnel ventilation system in the tunnel tube and the overpressure system in the escape corridor are discussed. The exit situation of the escape route, near the exit portals, is discussed and proposals to increase the safety are given. The results indicate that with minor modifications, the safety during a fire situation can be increased.
