Tumor budding is a characteristic microscopic feature representing tumor dedifferentiation at the invasive front of the tumor, Its clinical significance lies in simplicity in detection using the conventional hematoxylin-eosin (H-E) staining without specific and/or cost-demanding techniques and its superior reproducibility.Intensity of tumor budding at the invasive tumor margin is suggested to be a good pathologic variable to estimate malignancy potential in patients with colorectal carcinoma (CRC).
