Electrochemical accumulators are a significant component of autonomous photovoltaic systems. Their proper operation is decisive for the operating quality of the PV system, more particularly impacting its cost. Contemporary photovoltaic systems are usually designed with a minimum capacity of the battery of accumulators. It is therefore significant to determine the real capacity of the new accumulators. This need is caused by the fact, that manufacturers' specifications for new batteries are not always reflecting the real values. It is even more important to determine the real capacity of batteries being in operation in existing photovoltaic systems. Standard layouts of autonomous PV systems do not include such a measurement functionality. The solution to this problem is to take the batteries out of the PV system and to measure them on a special stand. The paper presents such a metering stand, with particular focus on the control aspects of the metering procedure.
