With the construction and start-up of a pilot plant for the production of granular polysilicon as feedstock material in the photovoltaic industry WACKER POLYSILICON has taken another step towards installing a production plant. Important milestones, such as steady-state process conditions and stable particle size distribution in the fluidized bed reactor could even be achieved while the pilot phase was still running. The quality of the pilot product confirms the good results from the laboratory phase and reliably meets solar industry requirements. Application tests confirmed the fundamental effectiveness. The future work on scale-up for industrial production will focus on substantial development work to increase the capacity of the fluidized bed reactor even further and stabilization of the quality.
