The ability to estimate daily crop water use(CWU)of agricultural fields is a potentially useful tool in the management of agricultural water resources.In this document,a methodology is described and demonstrated for estimating daily and seasonal CWU based on standard weather observations and observations from operational remote sensing systems,such as satellites or aircraft.Comparison of estimates obtained using this methodology with actual field observations of evapotranspiration suggests that the methodology is reasonably accurate.By modeling the daily growth of an agricultural crop utilizing infrequent remote sensing observations,estimates can be obtained for CWU on each day of the growing season.These daily values can be summed to produce estimates of CWU for the entire growing season.The ability of this methodology to use data that can be readily obtained makes it a potentially useful tool in operational water resource management programs.
